Trips & Outings
Enhancing the curriculum and providing opportunities for the boys (and girls in Nursery) to experience outings and residentials is a focus throughout the academic year across the school. We use the local area to our advantage and ensure our pupils benefit from the learning opportunities on our doorstep.
The Nursery children visit Garson’s Farm, Cobham fire station and library and Painshill Park and the experience of being driven in the Parkside minibus is where the magic of the outing begins.
In Pre Prep, all outings are local using the Parkside minibus to transport the boys, with the exception of the Pantomime in December when they travel by coach to Camberley Theatre. Outings in the Pre Prep include Wisley Gardens, Painshill Park, the Lookout Centre, Chertsey Toy Museum, Woking Mosque, Cobham High Street, Pizza Express to name but a few (see photo gallery below for trips from 2019). Boys in Year 2 have alsorepresented Parkside at music festivals, and they sing to the elderly residents at Springfield House.
All boys in the Prep School have a camp out in the School grounds, sleeping in their own tents and experiencing an evening of adventure, cooking and sharing stories around the campfire. In the morning, they cook breakfast and clear the camp before returning to School. Residential trips start in Year 4 with one night away at Hindleap where forest survival skills are taught. In Year 5, boys visit Stratford Upon Avon for 2 nights, Year 6 visit Belgium for 3 nights, Year 7 Paris for 5 nights and Year 8 have been to Italy as they start their Leaver’s Programme for 7 nights.
Local trips continue throughout the year for all ages including Hampton Court, orienteering in Box Hill, leadership days in the Surrey Hills, London Museums, theatre trips, musical events, and field trips to Nower Wood to name but a few.
The Year 7 and 8 Caribbean Cricket Tour has been a highlight in the past, and we cannot wait to start our school trip programme running again in safer times.
School trips and residentials all contribute towards building confidence and independence at a young age. It is so important for children to be given the opportunity to experience their own community as well as different ones. It brings varied perspectives of life and builds teamwork and solidarity amongst their friends and teachers, which create life long memories.
