History of The School

History of Parkside School

Parkside School was founded in 1879 by Mr T Hill, scholar of Queen’s College, Oxford. It opened with just four pupils. For the first century, the school was based in East Horsley, between Guildford and Leatherhead, before moving to its present site in 1979.

Its current home, The Manor, Stoke D’Abernon is a Grade II listed, mid-18 th century Palladian villa built around a U-shaped timber house erected in Tudor times. For many years, the manor owned the advowson for the parish church, which is incorporated into the grounds and many residents of the manor were also rectors of the parish. It remained a family home until 1956, after which it became a residential centre for London teachers before Parkside School took up residence.
