Throughout the year Parkside pupils, staff and parents are actively involved in fundraising for a number of charities, take a look below at the work we have done during 2008/9 and the wonderful results achieved.
Destiny Africa Children’s Choir
In October 2008 we hosted a concert in aid of The Kampala Children’s Centre in Uganda the proceeds from which went directly towards a project to expand the centre which it is hoped will transform the lives of around a thousand Ugandan children.
NSPCC Spellathon
Well done to all the boys who participated in the sponsored ‘spellathon’ which took place in the first half of the autumn term to raise money for the NSPCC. The total amount of money raised was £2914 – well done to all who spelled and sponsored!
Sponsored Penalty Shoot Out
In November Parkside hosted and took part in a ‘Kick For Children With Cancer’ event. This was a sponsored penalty shootout in aid of CLIC Sargent which is the official national charity for Chelsea Football Club. The name of every child who raised more than £10 sponsorship was put into a draw and the lucky winners were invited for a tour of the Chelsea training ground and a question and answer session with the first team goalkeeper Petr Cech. An amazing £6410 was raised by Parkside for this very worthy cause.
Nursery Woodland Nature Trail
In the autumn term the nursery children took part in a sponsored Woodland Nature Trail Walk around the school grounds. Their efforts together with the generosity of their parents, raised a fantastic £1309, half of which was given to Tree House, a charity that works to support and educate children with Autism, and half to the Fernside Trust, a charitable trust which funds the continued education of boys at Parkside School whose education might otherwise be curtailed due to financial difficulties.
Pre Prep Christmas Productions 2008
Ticket sales for this raised a total of £310, half was donated to The Variety Club Children’s Charity and the other half has been put towards the Pre Prep Sensory Garden fund.
Operation Christmas Child
Parkside parents donated 150 shoe boxes filled with presents for needy children around the world. Before the shoeboxes were dispatched, many of our parents also gave up their time to help check the 14,000 boxes received by the charity’s warehouse. Well done to all concerned.
Red Nose Day

The boys in pre-prep and main school arrived at school wearing wild and whacky fancy dress, and for their efforts, together with the children in nursery who wore red and made ‘red nose’ cakes, they raised an amazing £1474.05 for the Red Nose Charity and great fun was had by all in the process!
Raise a Smile Annual Charity Concert
This year’s concert showcased not only the near professional performances by existing members of the Big Band and choir, but also the talent of some of the younger members of the school who have recently joined them from the junior ranks. The concert was held in the new Performing Arts Hall on two consecutive evenings but as usual the boys rose to the occasion and gave their all, twice over! This year’s charity was The Elifar Foundation and donations from parents, relatives and friends on both evenings, raised an amazing £1886 – a Charity Concert record!
Charity Morning 2009
The sixth form leavers held their annual charity morning in July as part of the ‘Leavers’ Programme’. The event was organised and run by the boys themselves at the end of term, and raised a fantastic £1705.40 for Cherry Trees.
