Butser trip

An intrepid group of 4th formers plus Mr Tindall, Mrs Lahiri (particularly intrepid), and Mr Roy (only slightly intrepid) took a coach down to the South Downs this week to see how the Celts and Romans lived: in winter!

We had a nice introductory lecture by the central fire in one of the smaller round houses. This took the chill off, but was rather smoky if you were sitting in the wrong place... Afterwards we split into two groups for our activities of: building a flint wall, building a wattle fence, visiting the Roman villa and hypocaust, designing mosaics and making Celtic torques with wire and pliers.

To put the icing on the cake (or was it just the ice?),  we were allowed a run to the top of the hill and back- this was no problem at all to almost all of the group – although I don’t remember seeing Mrs Lahiri at the top....
