Parkside Pre-Prep –  Discover your child’s love of learning

Parkside Pre-Prep is for boys aged 4-7. In this nurturing, child centred environment our aim is for every boy to reach his potential so that they are ready to move into the Preparatory School with confidence and as independent learners.

The first year is in Reception which is the final year of EYFS. The smooth transition from nursery ensures boys continue their love of learning through play in our bright, stimulating classroom environment.

Throughout Pre Prep the curriculum is planned to ensure that the needs of boys are met through creative, hands on experiences which will develop their naturally enquiring minds. Our standards in numeracy and literacy are high. We ensure there is a good balance of traditional and practical lessons.

We believe that for boys to succeed, their self-esteem needs to be nurtured and developed. By celebrating individual effort, progress and achievement boys feel valued. Above all, we maintain a happy, vibrant, purposeful atmosphere in which we promote children's learning.

What We Do

Parkside Pre-Prep School aims to provide a secure and interesting environment in which the boys can develop confidence, self-esteem and the ability to relate easily to the their peers and adults.

Each of the three year groups (Reception, Year 1 and Year 2) are split into two forms, with a fully-qualified teacher and a teaching assistant. The daily timetable is lively and challenging, with emphasis on literacy, numeracy and creativity. Each class has a an interactive whiteboard and pupils are given regular opportunities to develop early computer skills. They also use the school’s full range of comprehensive facilities, which include the Swimming Pool, Performance Hall, Gym, Tennis courts, Adventure playground and use of the wonderful grounds for outdoor learning.

Other academic subjects include Science, French, History, Geography, Religious Studies , Art, Music and Physical Education.

Sports

Parkside pupils have a deserved reputation for all-round excellence, not least in the area of sporting achievement. The school’s sporting facilities are some of the best in the south and Parkside teams are coached by professionally qualified staff.

We give all our Pre-Prep boys the opportunity to develop their talents in a wide range of team and individual sports. Throughout the year the boys play a variety of sports: football, rugby, cricket and athletics as well as having a weekly swimming lessons. Our two Pre- Prep football teams regularly play matches and participate in local tournaments.

We also provide many in-school athletics, tennis and other sporting opportunities which culminate in our eagerly-awaited annual sports day.

Arts

The school is full of creative arts – drama, painting, sculpture and sound. All these aspects are combined each Christmas, when the three Pre-Prep year groups each put on a production one evening.

Music

Individual music tuition is available from the second year of Pre-Prep. As with every other subject taught at Parkside, children are encouraged to discover the beauty of music as they flourish at their own pace.

We offer a wide range of instrumental tuition, including piano, woodwind, violin and recorder (all subject to age and size of child) with professional tuition from specialist teachers. Every child is given the opportunity to participate.

In addition, regular class music encompasses singing and percussion work. Whether or not they go on to play an instrument or sing themselves, this gives the children a much greater understanding of teamwork and co-operation from which they can benefit in many walks of life.
